I want justice for you, even if only financially, but I want you to work for a school, any school, that truly appreciates you and just lets you teach. I can tell you are a beloved teacher by many students, with the energy you bring to this work.
"When justice requires hours, the courts are years away".
I'm sure some have signed waivers to get their jobs back and it would be interesting if the courts declare them null and void because they were signed under economic duress.
"Wouldn't be the first time they botched implementation of a policy." THAT's for sure. Over the past two years I have been investigating both the DOE and the UFT, and I have audio tapes and documents that I am using in my numerous PERB cases. THAT's where my proof and truth lie as far as the UFT - I can now substantiate that the UFT never supported religious exemptions, yet never coordinated what reps should say when asked by members and to testify at PERB about that. It's been quite shocking, actually.
obviously we are talking with different people. All good. If someone is told they have to sign the waiver, they should sent their resume elsewhere, because the admin at the school don't want to hire them, or don't have an opening. That's what I suggest. Still doesn't change my original suggestion to not rely on any statements from Beth Norton.
Of course we are talking to different people, who've had different experiences.
No NYC Educator we spoke to had to give a waiver to their school building - was always a requirement from Central. Principals never cared about it nor asked for it.
Beth Norton was at the table with the DOE when the mandate was lifted in February of 2023. Her statements are critical to the legal record. We shall see how correct she is or isn't. Nevertheless her position at UFT make her on record statements very important in our cases.
And as you know the NYC DOE is a constant train wreck, not knowing what it should do, could do or must do. From what I have seen and investigated it seems like NYC had a policy requiring a waiver and didn't enforce it until the summer of 2023. Wouldn't be the first time they botched implementation of a policy.
I don't know if this is the case, it's just what makes the most sense at this point with all the evidence I have obtained.
Nope, I am not saying that... the NYC DOE is never to be believed. I have written and said this so many times, I assume that people who work for the NYC DOE and have had a problem, know that. Many UFT members still rely on the UFT to support the values and rights in the contract, and this has been seen as untrue since the COVID Mandate. Almost all of the former DOE employees who have sought their jobs back have gotten their jobs and no waiver of rights is sent or received. Just sayin"...
Perhaps everyone should take whatever Beth Norton says as possibly false or at a minimum, misleading. I have suggested that in the past, and will continue to say that.

Purposely AMBIGUOUS because they want total control! Disgusting! Unconstitutional nonsense!

That's what we saw as well until August of 2023.
We have seen the waiver, sent to us. By multiple educators, and many who were denied entry to the buildings that hired them because they didn't sign.
Just sayin...

And assume what DOE says to be true?
Because they are conflicting in this case.
Norton is not our only source for NYC DOE requiring a waiver. She is one of multiple sources.
