Michael I am unvaccinated but retired. I told you one story of my daughter who was not able to work at the DOE (She’s an OT) because of being unvaccinated and had to do her internship at a place that accepted her. I know others who left because of these mandates. I also was allowed in a school building many years ago while these mandates were still in effect while helping with a book fair. No questions asked. I’m happy to see Katie reached out and Amy is considering this ask. As you know, it’s still a hot button issue among many who don’t want to believe the facts that are now out there. I am running on ABC to be a functional exec board member. I hope this issue can get resolved and you all can get back to work and be compensated.
Amy is very cold on reinstatement right now. I hope she is able to think it through and see that a true injustice was done to us. In speaking to her extensively I get the sense she does see this, but the politics is clearly getting in the way. I know many on the slate don't support reinstatement - a shame really.
What's most important is that 80% of the membership DOES NOT VOTE - this silent majority is mostly pissed off about the mandates that were forced on them. They have buyers regret on the vaccine that did not stop transmission at all --- Do you think they don't realize NOT ONE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ALL OF NY had a vaccine mandate without a testing option? Only NYC had that nonsense. You think most of these people like that? If ABC can tap into that - into MY BODY MY CHOICE (for real) - you could pull out tens of thousands of members who never voted before and it will be devastation for Mulgrew and Unity at the ballot box.
Thank you for your tireless work, Michael. I was fortunate to be able to retire with the mandate. My experience with Arundell was similar to yours: definitely better than Mulgrew and the whole gang but not where it needs to be. Mulgrew needs to go. Teachers have been fed a lot of propaganda for many years thus making it hard for them to see the truth. May God be with you on this journey.
The UFT should be ashamed of themselves and anyone who supported the vaccine mandate. Making people choose between their livelihood and their health for something that didn’t even work.
