He said his priorities are the concerns of NYC workers and retirees but realistically doesn't know how much he can do or how quickly as he expects to find a fiscal mess left from Adams. They discussed Access-A-Ride, needs of EMS and how we got to the push for Medicare Advantage. What I have to say isn’t going to be well received, but I’m putting it out there as something to consider. Sliwa is in the same position as Kennedy was in the presidential race. Kennedy was taking enough votes away from Trump which increased the chances of Kamala Harris winning. Kennedy put the country first and opted to support Trump. He could have done the same with Harris, but his views aligned more with Trump. Kennedy negotiated a way for him to still have an impact on the nation by supporting Trump. I understand Sliwa supports the reinstatement of unvaccinated workers to their previous jobs, which is a critical issue for a population of voters in NYC. It’s ridiculous none of them have been reinstated. However, polling doesn’t support Sliwa winning. He’s taking enough votes away from Cuomo, which is all but guaranteeing Mamdani wins the election. Adams realized this, dropped out of the race, and endorsed Cuomo. It remains to be seen if he brokered a deal the way Kennedy did with Trump. After Adam’s endorsement, Cuomo’s polling numbers went up ~10 points, but that still put him behind Mamdani. Sliwa’s polling is lower than Cuomo’s. So, the reality is, him staying in the race ensures a win for Mamdani. This is being discussed by several conservatives and moderate democrats, so I’m not the only one seeing the parallel of this mayoral race to Kennedy’s presidential bid. Fortunately, I don’t live in NYC, so I won’t be impacted by the results of this election, but Sliwa and those of you in the MAHA movement will. If you see another path to victory for Sliwa, please share. Being an outsider, it’s entirely possible I’m missing something.
I don't think what you are saying is correct. A new poll was released showing the opposite- that Cuomo is taking away votes from Sliwa. In head to head competition Sliwa is doing better against Mamdani than Cuomo.
For myself, and all fired unvaccinated workers, we will never vote for Cuomo no matter what. He was the architect of destroying our lives. It would almost be like asking Jews to vote for Hitler to prevent Stalin from winning an election.
Obviously that's not a direct comparison but the analogy is fair - Cuomo should be in prison, not contender for mayor of anything
